Hoja Verde is a flower farm located in Cayambe, Ecuador, which has one of the best climates in the world for growing roses due its fertile volcanic soil, high altitude and strong sunlight. The Cayambe area is the center of Ecuador’s flower industry and is home to many indigenous people, some of whom trace their ancestry to the Kayambi people who fought against the Incas during the pre-Columbian era.
How they have made a difference: Health. A portion of the Fair Trade premium for Hoja Verde flower workers supports medical services for specialized preventative and urgent care.
The training courses in First Aid were important for everybody's well-being. We were introduced to new tools and clothes for our health and safety. Needless to say, all workers are happy for the mobile toilet units, which we bought with the premium. ”
