Fair Trade and Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART)
As part of Rider Thank You Day, volunteers with the Bay Area Fair Trade Coalition will be giving out 50,000 coupons for a free cup of Fair Trade Certified coffee or ½ off a bag of coffee from Tully’s at the six busiest BART stations. This will mark the culmination of a month-long Fair Trade promotion throughout the BART system, and is the result of a new relationship between TransFair USA, BART, and Tully’s. In honor of…YOU!Thanks to all of you who honored your friends and family this holiday season by giving them the gift of Fair Trade and a donation to TransFair USA. FLO Establishes Minimum Tea Prices, Raises Minimum Coffee PriceFairtrade Labeling Organizations International (FLO) has announced that, from February, 1st, 2008, the first Fairtrade Minimum Prices for tea will be integrated into the Fair Trade Standards. The agreement to implement Minimum Prices for such a complex product represents a major achievement for FLO as the market prices for tea vary tremendously. In addition, FLO is announcing an increase of the guaranteed minimum washed Arabica coffee price to US $1.25 per pound to take effect on 1 June 2008. The Social and Organic Premiums for coffee remain at 10 cents and 20 cents, respectively. |
